About Kalkan

Kalkan is located in the westernmost part of the Mediterranean coastline, connected to the town of Kaş, which we consider the capital of the Lycian civilization of Antalya. It is the most popular, growing, developing and natural holiday resort of recent years in Turkey.

Kalkan is located between the Gulf of Antalya in the east and the Gulf of Fethiye in the west; in the area called Teke Peninsula today. It is adjacent to the Fethiye district of Mugla, where it is separated by Esen River in the west, Finike in the east and Elmali districts in the north.

Kalkan is an insurmountable location that starts from the western plains of Xanthos and extends to the south of Fethiye. Established at the foot of the Mendus and Dodurga Mountains, the mountains stretching up to Kas and Demre suddenly rise along the coast and are impassable.

The climate of Kalkan has the characteristics of a typical Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers, rainy and mild winters. Sea water temperature rarely falls below 16 degrees Celsius. Swimming and diving sports last for 9 months. The average temperature is around 30–39 in summer and around 14–20 in winter.

With an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, Kalkan is a place preferred by locals and foreigners for a healthy life. It has been an important area in every period of civilization and has attracted attention due to its strategic location. The Kalkan region, which has hosted many important civilizations from the Hittites to the Lycians, from the Romans to the Ottomans, is an outstanding holiday route today, especially preferred by British tourists.

When you walk through the steep cobblestone streets of Kalkan, which dates back to the Lycian civilization, you find yourself in sea coves shaped by green and blue. The region has a wide historical background.

Apart from Kalkan hotels and hostels, villa tourism, which has developed in Kalkan recently, has become one of the most popular accommodation choices. Being one of the ‘blue flag’ seas in our country, it is a perfect summer tourism spot. Hosting Patara Beach, which is one of the largest beaches in the world, Kalkan also hosts tourists because it is 5 km away from Kaputaş Beach, which continues to be a shining star on the Mediterranean coast. With its carefully protected natural areas and historical heritage, Kalkan should be at the top of the list of holiday destinations worth seeing.
